In Finland, located in the heart of the Saimaa Lake District, is the city of Savonlinna. Built on a chain of Islands, harmonises the city of Savonlinna with the picturesque landscape, which is one of the largest lake systems in Europe.

The most important monument of Savonlinna is the castle of Olanvinlinna. Founded in the middle ages by the Swedish Viceroy, the bastion was to protect the country against Russian aggression. In its turbulent history the castle was times in Swedish, times in Russian possession, until 1809 finally lost their military significance. Olavinlinna is one of the best preserved medieval fortresses in Scandinavia and can be visited all year round. The international Opera Festival, which takes place each year in July in the courtyard are a cultural treat.
The beautiful Lake scenery can explore very well with the car. A trip to the Kerimäki located about 15 km east of Savonlinna is a must. There is the largest wooden church in the world, whose huge Kirchenschiff holds over 3,000 visitors. Some concerts are presented during the Opera Festival in the Church.
