Kecskemét is a a town in Central Hungary, about 90 km east of Budapest. City just under 110,000 inhabitants lies in the midst of the so-called great Hungarian plain and is also known as the cultural centre of this region.

The entire city of Kecskemets is typical of the eastern Hungary. So, Kecskemét has a relatively small city centre, which has a closed, urban development. The outside of the city centre districts, however, scattered far apart and in part even as in the 19th century consist of peasant farmsteads. In between are several satellite communities from more recent times.

Also when Kecskemét was mentioned as a city in the 14th century, the city expanded out to only significantly in the second half of the 19th century. This is the main reason why the most sights in the art nouveau style are built. The Town Hall, as well as the grounds of "Cifra Palota" comes from this time. The latter served as a residence of a wealthy inhabitant and is venue for various exhibitions today.

Also from this period, synagogue with remarkable interior is worth to visit. She only the so-called Protestant (great Church) is a little older and also impresses with its beautiful, built in the Austro-Hungarian style architecture. Kecskemét is also starting point for tours in the Bugac Pusta. It is a part of the lesser National Park. There is still so present as it was before the cultivation in this area. The historically interesting environment of Kecskemets can be nice with a rental car.
