Pécs is a town in southern of Hungary, near on the border with Croatia. The approximately 160,000 inhabitants of this city are employed largely in industry and in the service sector. However, tourism has gained importance in recent years. PECs "Capital of culture 2010" was so named.
The scenic at Pécs is that had settled several cultures and ethnic groups there and are partially fused. This reflected also on the historic buildings in the city, which not only remember the different ethnic groups, but come from also from many eras of human history. Many squares and streets remind also that Pécs and the surrounding area was part of Austrian or Austro-Hungarian Empire. There the architecture of the houses reminds very much of Austria, while other places appear in turn slightly Mediterranean. Also worth seeing is the botanical gardens belonging to the University of Pécs and the well-known "fence with 1,000 locks". The surrounding area of the city offers some attractions. Around the city can be very nice with a rental car.
